Bulky Waste Collection Update

It does not appear likely that the national shortage of HGV drivers is likely to improve significantly to allow the additional resource required to operate this service to be regularly and reliably put in place before Christmas.

On behalf of Bedford Borough Council:

Dear Parish Council

RE: Rural Bulky Collection Service

We are writing to update you on the current position with regard to delivery of the Rural Bulky Collection Service.

The Service has unfortunately had to be postponed this year, firstly due to COVID regulations and latterly due to a shortage of HGV drivers.

The Council has been prioritising the collection of bins at this time. Unfortunately, it does not appear likely that the national shortage of HGV drivers is likely to improve significantly to allow the additional resource required to operate this service to be regularly and reliably put in place before Christmas.

The Council will keep the service under review and will look to start the service as soon as resources allow. We know this is disappointing news but the Council must continue to ensure that it can fulfil its statutory duty to collect bins as a priority.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barkers Lane is open to accept waste 7 days a week, alternatively the Bulky Waste Collection service is also available for a small fee. For further information on both of these services please visit: www.bedford.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling-and-waste/
