The Parish Council’s Sustainable Oakley Committee is working with Bedford Borough Council to look at ways in which Oakley could become a more sustainable community.
We had a number of great ideas from residents who came to the Sustainable Oakley meeting in November.
Now we are looking at how these suggestions can be taken forward.
Energy Saving
We can all live more sustainably, and save money, by reducing our home energy costs.
We have obtained energy meters for Oakley residents to borrow so you can monitor electricity use in your home.
Find out about insulation, and how to get grants from the Energy Saving Trust, click Energy Saving.
There are two downloadable documents now available on this topic, both in ‘pdf’ format:
The first deals with reducing your usage of energy with the consequent saving of money, and the other is offering the free loan of an energy monitor for a month, so that you can ascertain your electrical energy usage.
Please click Energy for the first, and Monitor for the second.
To borrow a monitor, please contact Richard Baily on 01234 823251
Transport
Cycling is a low-cost, healthy and sustainable means of transport for local journeys.
We are hoping to link Oakley to the Bedford Green Wheel, a project to build on the existing network of traffic free paths and quiet routes for cyclists and walkers around Bedford.
